Among cacti, streams and a stone butterflies

There is something captivating about the way water flows gently across rocks.
It brings life wherever it touches- plants, flowers, insects, and small creatures gather quietly around it.
That’s way, when we decided to revive our ” cactus garden”, I came up with a slightly unusual idea: to create an oasis in the desert.

After months of digging and studying how to built a small self-sufficient ecosystem, the pond was born.
Oxygenating plants rest on its bottom, aquatic mint and horsetail grow on its edges, and soon the first bright yellow water lilies will open like sunbursts on the surface.

But the true enchantment comes from the goldfish.
They now recognize me and swim over, waiting for their food.
A terracotta jar, once an old vinegarpot, gently pours water into the pond, following a short path.
A timer keeps the rhythm, creating a soothing trickle that offers water to birds and dragonflies alike.
Standing guard over the stream is the hollow trunk of a dragon tree– where since this spring, tiny
Doors and windows have been lovingly carved into the bark, connected by small wooden stairs and railings, built by skilled hands.
And from above- especially from our garden and sea view rooms-a butterfly shape slowly reveals itself:
The jar is the head,
the stream and the pond , its slim body
the mirrored cacti beds on either side, decorated with brown pumice stone and white gravel, form the wings.
It’sa hidden drawing, not meant to impress, but to whisper:” Even between thorns, life finds a way to bloom

Turning right and slowly climbing up Via baiola, in thedirection of Fango, after about 500m meters you’ll reach the “younger sister” of Villa Olivia, a nice white two floor house with three apartments, L’Ulivo, Il Rosmarino and La Strelizia, now called Le Dimore
